Security Network Engineer

Location: LINX London Office

Position:

  • Security Network Engineer

Reports to:

  • LINX Network Operations Manager

Based in:

  • The position will be based in the LINX London office, but occasional travel to the LINX Peterborough office will be required along with some international travel

Responsibilities:

  • Work with security office to develop and implement security policies, standards and procedures
  • Implement, configure and maintain security platforms including Cisco and Juniper firewalls
  • Implement, configure and maintain IDS/IPS platforms
  • Implement and maintain DDoS mitigation tools
  • Lead and deliver successful projects following Agile processes
  • Development and implementation of technology and infrastructure upgrades for the improvement and growth of the exchange
  • Plan and implement software and hardware upgrades, usually focusing on improvements to the network, implementation of new technologies, investigations, testing, enhancements etc.
  • Configure and maintain network automation platforms
  • Ongoing day-to-day Network maintenance
  • Expectation to install and test sizable network devices
  • Perform and manage significant network maintenance work, some of which could run throughout any period of the day
  • 24x7 on call rota
  • Third point of escalation for support issues. provide back-up to 2nd line network engineers and 1st line NOC engineers, covering absence and helping with workload and administration
  • Awareness of and working to budgets
  • Any other duties required for the overall technical and organisational operation of LINX

 

Prerequisite Skills:

  • Minimum 4/5 years experience in network/ISP environment
  • Advanced complex problem solving skills
  • Debugging/analytical skills
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Eye for detail, self-starting and independent, but able to work within predefined areas of responsibility
  • Good project management skills
  • Thorough understanding of Security protocols
  • Thorough understanding and experience of Ethernet/Layer 2 switched Networks
  • Thorough understanding and experience of Juniper routers, firewalls and JUNOS
  • Experience of Cisco firewalls and IDS platforms
  • Knowledge of vulnerability assessment and penetration testing
  • Thorough knowledge of IP routing protocols
  • Thorough understanding and experience of MPLS/VPLS/EVPN technologies
  • Knowledge of LINUX/UNIX system administration skills
  • Working understanding of scripting language (Python, PHP, Perl)
  • Experience with automation/configuration management systems
  • Must be able to pass LAIT 3 within a reasonable period

  • This post will be included in an on-call rota
  • You are required to be able to access the Docklands area within one hour
  • You will be required to be security screened to BS7858:1996 standard and CRB checked (this will start at your induction)
  • You are required to have the right to live and work in the UK
