Software Engineer

Location: LINX London Office

Position:

  • Software Engineer

Reports to:

  • LINX Software Engineering Manager

Based in:

  • The post holder will be based in the LINX London office. Occasional travel to the LINX Peterborough office and other locations will be required. Occasional International travel may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of applications to support the operation of LINX and the running of network services
  • Working with LINX staff to ensure a sustainable and productive standard of coding practices is maintained (release and revision control, bug tracking, testing, code review, QA)
  • Produce thorough documentation of the systems designed and developed
  • Working in an Agile/Scrum based environment, participating in sprint planning sessions
  • Sharing of information and knowledge between the team and the rest of the company via demo sessions, techtalks etc.
  • Any other duties required for the overall technical and organisational operation of LINX

Skills:

Essential Skills:

  • Strong problem solving skills, self-driven
  • An interest in the automation of systems, networks and processes
  • Excellent programming knowledge in Python, including writing tests
  • Solid experience working with linux systems
  • Experience working with automation tools (like Jenkins, Ansible, Chef, Puppet)
  • Experience working with a Version Control System (we use Git) and workflows (including branching, Pull Requests, merging etc)
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Experience working with relational and non-relational databases

Beneficial Skills:

  • Experience working with Tox, Setup Tools, pytest and the Cement framework
  • Experienced in writing client libraries for consuming RESTFul and SOAP APIs
  • Experience programming in PHP
  • Experience working with common web development frameworks and libraries is beneficial (e.g. Symfony2/3, PHPUnit, JQuery, Bootstrap, AngularJS)
  • Basic SysAdmin experience
  • An understanding of basic IP Networking, be comfortable talking about mac addresses, ip addresses, switching, routing
  • Working with network protocols like LDAP, SNMP, NETCONF

Please Note:

  • This post has an occasional element of out-of-hours availability as a 3rd line escalation point.
  • You will be required to be security screened to BS7858 standard and DBS checked (this will start at your induction)
  • You are required to have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Some international travel may be required
