LINX 2022 Pricing Model and Strategy Explained

As part of the 2022 budget process, the LINX board and staff have carried out a thorough review of LINX pricing models and strategy.

LINX’s aim has been to create a more smooth and affordable capacity upgrade path for members across the various usage levels and services we offer. Therefore from January 1st 2022, LINX will be introducing fractional 1Gbps, 2Gbps and 5Gbps peering services over 10GE physical ports, as well as fractional 30Gbps peering services over 100GE physical ports.

From the new year LINX will charge a “port access fee” based on the physical port provisioned, and for peering services an additional “peering service” fee based on the bandwidth of peering services provisioned on the physical port. If additional services such as LINX Private VLAN or cloud access are provisioned on the same port, these will be charged in addition, according to that service’s fee.

Timelines

This announcement is intended to give members insight into the changes planned for as part of the 2022 budget, and so that they can provide any feedback in advance. The final details of the 2022 budget and pricing cuts will be shared with the membership on October 19th.

Once the new pricing has been shared we will hold two membership Zoom Q&A session on November 4th to answer any questions on the pricing and new services and how this might affect members.

ManxIX Appoint LINX as Technical Partner

LINX have announced it has been selected as the technical partner for the new Internet Exchange Point (IXP) on the Isle of Man, ManxIX.

ManxIX, the first and only Internet exchange on the Isle of Man was launched last year. The IXP is based in the BlueWave Carrier Neutral data centre site in Douglas, and currently provides colocation and connectivity solutions for several local and national networks.

The ambition for having an IXP on the island was to not only make traffic routing more efficient by keeping local traffic moving quickly and efficiently between residents on the Island, but also to provide better quality access to media content.

The new partnership with LINX has been established to provide a high grade, future proof technical set up, using the tried and tested LINX set up of a disaggregated network solution.

The LINX114 member conference and EGM will take place at the Park Plaza Victoria, in London on Wednesday 10th – Thursday 11th November 2021. It will be our first in-person member meeting since February 2020 – we hope to see you there!

New BGP Basics and Introduction to Peering Training Sessions Available

LINX has a long relationship with our partner, Systems & Network Training (SNT). In recent weeks we have been delighted to work together again on two new sessions, both presented by SNT’s Rob Minshall.

The Introduction to BGP training covers the basic concepts of BGP, configuration and use.

The second session is an introduction to Peering between autonomous systems.

New LINX and TELEHOUSE NYIIX US Interconnection Service Goes Live

LINX and TELEHOUSE NYIIX have announced that their new joint U.S. interconnection service is now available. The strategic partnership forged between both exchanges, announced in June 2021, interconnects the entities’ mutual ecosystems, offering members of each IXP with expanded peering opportunities. The partnership also provides member networks with a redundant and resilient route from New York to Northern Virginia.
