The High Court has ordered the UK’s largest broadband providers to block a further eight sites on grounds of copyright infringement, at the request of the Motion Picture Association of America (MPA).

The order was made under Section 97A of the Copyright, Designs and Patents Act (CDPA), and was directed at Sky, BT, TalkTalk, EE and Virgin Media.

The movie streaming sites – Couchtuner, MerDB, Putlocker, Putlocker Plus, Rainierland, Vidics, Watchfree and Xmovies8 – have been added to a list of over 100 sites blocked in the UK under the CDPA.

The MPA had previously requested that the ISPs block the sites voluntarily. However, UK broadband providers are standing firm by their commitment to block only in response to a court order.
