IANA Transition Proposal

Posted by malcolm on Wednesday, August 5th, 2015 at 14:15

The IANA Transition Coordination Group (ICG) have published their consolidated proposal for transition of the oversight of the IANA function from the US government to ICANN. The ICG proposal comprises three separate proposals developed by their respective communities

  • The proposal of the Cross-Community Working Group on DNS Stewardship (“CWG-Stewardship”)
  • The CRISP plan, from the Regional Internet Registries; and
  • IANAPLAN, from the Internet Engineering Task Force

The CWG-Stewardship proposal is expressly conditioned on successful implementation of the parallel work of the Cross-Community Working Group in ICANN accountability.

While the proposals of the three communities have each been through multiple public comment periods themselves, and claim the consensus support of their communities, the proposal is not without informed critics.

The ICG proposal is open for public comment until 8th September.

With over 770 members connecting from over 76 different countries worldwide, LINX members have access to direct routes from a large number of diverse international peering partners.
