MPs approve DRIP law

MPs have approved the Data Retention and Investigatory Powers (DRIP) bill. In a vote last night, the DRIP was approved by a vote of 449 to 33, despite public controversy over the fast-tracking of the bill, and over clauses which may extend both the scope of services covered and the territorial reach of the UK’s surveillance regime.

The bill is currently before the House of Lords, and is expected to be approved tomorrow.
