Russia blocks reddit for “promoting” illegal substances

The Russian government has blocked the popular social network reddit for “promoting” the use of illegal drugs.

The ban is apparently a reaction to a discussion between users of one of reddit’s 9000+ forums or “subreddits”. A number of users allegedly used the platform to discuss how to cultivate hallucinogenic mushrooms.

Roskomnadzor, the agency which maintains Russia’s rapidly expanding blocklist, say that they issued the ban after their attempts to contact reddit’s administrators were ignored.
