Increased Control

Peering your network traffic with LINX allows you to have increased control over what route it takes. When sending your traffic via alternative methods, the data will follow any available path over the Internet. This means it’s more than likely to take longer, cost more and is more vulnerable and susceptible to packet loss and security risks.

Lower Costs

Many LINX members find peering more cost effective than other methods of data transfer. The first 10GE port and the first service on a PeeringLAN with a speed of up to 4Gbps is included in the membership fee. This service can either be a Peering Service, MAPS, Private VLAN or a CUG service. Any additional service, or any service with a bandwidth above 4Gbps will be charged according to the published fees in addition to the Membership Fee.

Resilience

The ability to provide and maintain an acceptable service level in the event of failure is important. When peering at LINX, members can re-route traffic in the event of a network interruption.

Lower Latency

By peering, the route between network operators becomes more direct, which significantly reduces the distance that the data must travel. Less hops and keeping traffic closer to the end user, creates a much-improved user experience. Networks in content delivery, gaming or streaming benefit from this solution greatly, as it causes less lag and buffering.

Security

With increased network control comes an increased level of security for your traffic. Monitoring the route of the data, end to end and approving what peers it passes through en-route to its final location, minimises the risk of DDoS and other security attacks.

Redundancy

Some networks depend heavily on IP transit. If a transit provider fails, the originating network may result in losing routing control, packet loss and service distribution. Peering at LINX increases your network redundancy by giving you control of who you peer with and what route it takes. LINX also have multiple data centre locations at each interconnection hub. Being present at more than one LINX location or LINX enabled data centre can further improve your network redundancy.
