The JEDIX website is now live and to coincide with the launch a number of informative videos have been made available in the JEDIX News section. Farewell to LINX Chairman, Murray Steele

It is with great sadness we advise you of Murray Steele’s resignation as independent chairman of LINX. Whilst he took a keen interest in the business, Murray’s role was a non-executive one; John Souter and his executive team will ensure packets continue to flow and that the business is unaffected.

Murray was given a formal farewell at LINX HQ in March with the presentation by CEO John Souter of a goodbye gift from all the staff.

Simon Woodhead has been confirmed as the newly elected chairman of the Board (and previously vice-chairman), who picks up Murray’s commitments from this point forwards. As announced at LINX104, the Board have begun the search for a replacement independent chairman.

Johar Alam of guest IXP the Indonesian Internet Exchange shared IIX’s experiences in using the LINX MoU template model and tech documents in helping establish IIX and the OpenIXP in Indonesia

There was also a very informative presentation on 5G by BT’s Chief Architect Neil McRae

Quick Profile: Inga Turner (Member Relations)

LINX Member Relations Representative, Inga Turner, spent a number of years working in customer service roles dealing with clients and major organisations directly, so is ideally suited to her position at LINX.

At NANOG75 in San Francisco in February Inga took part in her first industry panel session in the Women Tech Forum (WTF) discussing diversity & inclusion in our industry. She also visited Sao Paolo for Capacity Latam to learn more about the South American peering market.

Inga told us, “I am very passionate about providing the best possible service and believe in treating all clients with the utmost care. I love talking to members and helping get the best out of LINX membership. The North and South American events were very interesting and have certainly given me a wider understanding of the telecoms community.”

Global Subsea Resurgence: Virginia Beach 0 – 4 in 18 Months

At LINX102 in Manchester in August LINX were pleased to welcome Vinay Nagpal of Interglobix to speak on the topic of global subsea cables. We published an article on this subkect in the recent HotLINX magazine but Vinay, with additional content supplied by Rob Hudome, Senior Project Development Manager, City of Virginia Beach,  has kindly produced a more detailed version which now available to read on the LINX website.

“There are approximately 448 submarine cables in service globally (as of Sep 2018), representing about 1.2 Million kms of trans-oceanic cable deployed under water around the world. The astronomical growth in demand for capacity on these cables is driven by the growth in – data generation by all of us as users, the appetite for data consumption and ‘digital everything’ phenomena taking place around us.”
