LINX Incentive Programme 2020

LINX launched a new incentive scheme on 1st January 2020 which offers members six months free on 1GE to 10GE port upgrades as well as new 100GE ports for orders received during the first half of the year.

If a member places an order for either option between 1st January 2020 and 30th June 2020, and also commits to a 12 month minimum contract term, the member will receive the first six months free of the contract term, and subsequently pay normal port fees for the remaining six months.

This incentive is available on all LINX LANs, excluding JEDIX. There are two situations that qualify for this incentive;

  • Upgrades from one or more 1GE ports to one or more 10GE ports

and / or

  • Purchase of additional 100GE ports, whereby a member already has a live 100GE on any LINX LAN.

The full terms and conditions of the incentive scheme can be viewed on the LINX website.

LINX Round Up

In the run up to the end of year engineering freeze LINX were still continuing the upgrades of the network across our London peering LANs. Our picture shows a Juniper Networks MX60 router being installed by Senior Network Engineer, Mo Shivji, of our Technology team.

Thanks to Secure Transportation Ltd for capturing this image during the installation at the Equinix data centre.

To view the LINX network topology across all seven LINX sites please see the topology page on the LINX website.

What are the likely profitable trends for the telecom industry in 2020?

There is a plethora of technology-enabled opportunities out there. The big ones we know about: 5G, Cloud, Edge, while two years ago we might have included IoT in that list. Today we seem to be faced with a considerable number of technologies and trends rather than a line-up of “killer” technological developments.

The analyst firm ABI Research has compiled a list of 54 Technology Trends to Watch in 2020 but interestingly, it is not saying all 54 are going to be winners. In their white paper the researchers go through the full range of transformational CSP to DSP trends and opportunities, gauging the upsides and highlighting the weaknesses and bear-traps.

Registration for February member conference in London to open on Monday 13th January

As announced at LINX107 in November and in last month’s newsletter LINX are changing the format to its member conferences in 2020. While two day constitutional events will still be held in May (AGM) and November (EGM) as before the summer event in August will no longer take place.

The upcoming February meeting will be different in that it will offer a condensed one day programme to help attendees maximise their time away from the office. This means members can can meet as many of their peers as possible and still get access to the full range of technical and regulatory presentation content.

Click on the button to find out all relevant information on the February LINX108 event. The full agenda will be added once registration is open next week.

2019 End of Year Stats

As we enter 2020 we thought it would be interesting to look back at the stats for membership and port numbers, applications and connected capacity for 2019. These figures can fluctuate when members upgrade 10GE ports to 100GE for example as some totals drop while others increase but there are definitely some fantastic milestone figures to celebrate here.
