LINX Welcomes Digital Realty as Access Point for New IXP in Ghana

The London Internet Exchange (LINX) have announced that they will be expanding their partnership with Digital Realty to west Africa as they welcome the data centre provider to their new interconnection fabric, LINX Accra.

Digital Realty is in the final stages of their new build facility in Accra, ACR2. A state-of-the-art data center strategically located within close proximity to several submarine landing cable stations in the downtown area of Accra.

Driven by the presence of these six subsea cable systems, Ghana is one of the most internationally connected countries in Africa, witnessing remarkable growth in its digital landscape in recent years.

LINX Accra was announced in late 2024 and is expected to go live in the coming weeks. A new internet exchange point (IXP) for Ghana providing future proof and scalable solutions to take the digital ecosystem to the next level. The new IXP will be the third location in Africa for LINX since the launch of LINX Nairobi in 2023, a significant milestone in the company’s wider strategy in Africa, working for the good of the internet.

Nurani Nimpuno, Head of Global Engagement for LINX comments;

“We are excited to be embarking on this new journey with Digital Realty in Ghana. We have strong relations with our partners across our LINX hubs in the UK, US and Kenya so I’m confident this extension of the relationship will be a success!”

Digital Realty has been a key access point for LINX’s interconnection solutions in London and also in Northern Virginia, US for several years. More recently, LINX launched their first steps into Africa with LINX Nairobi in November 2023 and LINX Mombasa in February of this year, both working closely with iColo: A Digital Realty Company.

“We’re pleased to be welcoming LINX to our new data center in Ghana, a key milestone as we continue to strengthen interconnection across Africa. As demand for low-latency connectivity grows, this collaboration will play a critical role in helping to shape the region’s digital future by enabling greater access, resilience, and integration with the global internet fabric,” says Joseph Koranteng, Managing Director, Digital Realty in Ghana.

This announcement reinforces Digital Realty’s broader commitment to accelerating digital transformation across Africa. As the world’s largest global data center provider Digital Realty is strengthening its open data center platform to support Africa’s internet backbone and empower both customers’ and the region’s growth within the global digital economy.

With operations across Kenya, Mozambique, Nigeria, and South Africa, the company is playing a pivotal role in enabling regional connectivity and global integration. Digital Realty was recently ranked the number one data center provider in Africa and Europe on Cloudscene’s 2024-2025 Data Center Ecosystem Leaderboard, underscoring its leadership in delivering a truly global data center platform.

LINX Accra will launch in the coming weeks as a multi-site, interconnected and resilient fabric offering networks a selection of low latency services including peering and more.
