Microsoft Azure Peering Service
Traffic to Microsoft 365, Teams and Dynamics 365 normally crosses the open internet, picking up latency and congestion on the way. MAPS peers you directly with AS8075, Microsoft’s public-facing network, and keeps your traffic on the Microsoft Global Network for as long as possible, handing off at the point closest to you. Cold potato routing, rather than the first available exit. MAPS is available at LON1, LINX Manchester, LINX NoVA and LINX Nairobi, where Microsoft has a presence.
What MAPS covers
Not ExpressRoute
MAPS peers with AS8075, Microsoft’s public network, for Teams, Microsoft 365 and Dynamics 365. ExpressRoute reaches AS12076 for Azure compute and storage. The two are complementary, not alternatives.
What you can reach
All publicly accessible Microsoft services, including Microsoft 365, Teams, SharePoint Online, Exchange Online and Dynamics 365.
What you need
Your own ASN to establish a BGP session, and an IPv4 allocation of /30 or larger.
Microsoft peering without the barriers
No prefix minimum
Standard Microsoft peering needs a /24. MAPS accepts allocations as small as a /30, so networks that could never meet the threshold can still peer directly.
No thresholds or approval
No minimum traffic volume, no minimum port size and no manual approval process. Bandwidth options run from 50Mbps to 10Gbps.
Live in five minutes
Ordering is fully automated through the LINX portal. Networks already connected to LINX can go from order to live peering in five minutes.
Four global locations
Available at LON1, LINX Manchester, LINX NoVA and LINX Nairobi, wherever Microsoft has a presence. Each runs dedicated infrastructure across two sites.
