Candidate Statement

Simon Lockhart - Bogons

I am standing for re-election to the London Internet Exchange board as a current Non-Executive Director, where I also serve on the remuneration and governance sub-committees.

My involvement with LINX spans more than 25 years, beginning when the BBC became a LINX member in 1999. Over that time, I have seen how LINX has evolved alongside the wider internet ecosystem and the increasingly important role it plays in enabling resilient, high-performance interconnection.

I currently represent the LINX member Bogons, of which I am one of the founders and company directors. Alongside this, I work with a range of alternative network operators – both large and small – providing strategic and technical consultancy. Through this work, and through regular engagement with operators across the industry both online and at events, I maintain a broad and current understanding of the priorities and challenges facing LINX members across different scales of network and stages of growth. This breadth of engagement gives me a perspective that extends beyond the priorities of any single network, business model, or segment of the membership.

I bring over 15 years of senior leadership experience within UK alternative network operators, with responsibility for network strategy, architecture, and service delivery. This has included balancing commercial and operational considerations while aligning technical direction with broader business objectives.

I have served on the LINX board across two separate periods, including the completion of my current three-year term. During this time, I have contributed through periods of significant growth and change, with a focus on balanced decision-making, long-term member value, and ensuring the organisation remains aligned with its member-led purpose. Over the last couple of years, I also played a key role in overseeing the introduction of the new membership agreement, working closely with the LINX executive team through the governance subcommittee.

I believe it is important that LINX continues to reflect the needs of its full membership, including smaller and growing networks. Sustainable growth is important, but it should always be balanced against operational excellence, financial discipline, and clear member value.

Every Board member brings a different perspective from across the diverse LINX community, and strategic decisions are strongest when informed by that breadth of experience and viewpoint.

When approaching difficult decisions, I value constructive challenge, careful analysis, and open discussion, while also recognising the importance of consensus and collective responsibility once decisions are made.

LINX has an important role within both the UK and global internet ecosystem, and I believe its reputation for professionalism, trust, and member focus remains one of its greatest strengths. If re-elected, I will continue working to ensure those values are maintained while LINX evolves to meet the needs of its members in a changing interconnection landscape.

I would welcome your support for re-election.
