Simwood Expand LINX Presence to Wales

Wholesale telecoms carrier, Simwood, have announced a new point of presence in Wales as they extend their network to Vantage Data Centers’ facility in Cardiff.

With this new presence, Simwood’s network will now also be visible at LINX Wales, the regional interconnection facility run by the London Internet Exchange (LINX).

Simwood has been a member of the London Internet Exchange (LINX) since 2011, delivering their range of services over LINX’s interconnection points in London and Manchester.

Networks join LINX primarily to ‘peer’ with other networks to deliver services for their end user. This means routing data or online traffic in a controlled, secure, and redundant manner using a method called BGP, Border Gateway Protocol. Peering often reduces network latency considerably and can be more cost effective than other methods.

Chief Technical Officer from Simwood, Charles Chance, said;

“We’re pleased to have connected Wales into our network. We have two 10GE ports at LINX Wales now and having a regional presence allows us to meet local networks, content providers and access networks via a single connection. This enables us to deliver even more value and high standard services to our customers.”

Vantage Data Centers in Cardiff is Europe’s largest data centre campus and supports the IT operations of clients of all sizes including financial services, government, IT Service providers, telecoms and ISP’s, cloud operators, utilities, and retail companies.

David Sandars, UK Business Development Manager for Vantage Data Centers said;

“We are delighted that Simwood has chosen Vantage Data Centers for their ongoing network expansion to deliver high-quality wholesale VoIP services throughout Wales, including for our customers.”

“LINX Wales’ successful relationship with Vantage Data Centers, including its direct point of presence here in the data centre, was certainly advantageous in attracting Simwood to our world-class campus. We are becoming firmly established as a major Internet hub and communications node for Wales and the West of England.”

Launched in 2015, the LINX Wales regional interconnection point reduces the dependency on London and other major digital conurbations. Networks that connect into the exchange benefit from faster more reliable digital services, thus providing a fruitful environment for businesses which rely on the Internet.
