| BT Tower, a British icon and enabler of national telecommunications | 16:15 | Very few people pass through London without catching a glimpse of BT Tower, formerly known as the Post Office Tower. This British icon is famous the world over, however what was its actual purpose, why was it designed the way it is, and who visited the famous cocktail bar and revolving restaurant? This talk will explore the very early days of national telecommunications networking in the UK, positioning BT Tower as a central hub in a network which grew to meet demand for telephony and television services. The use of point-to-point microwave radio links enabled a national network which stretched from Unst in the north of the Shetland Isles, to the Isles of Scilly, located 28 miles off the coast of Cornwall. The history of the tower is a fascinating journey through politics, building architecture, network architecture, technology, and a country rebuilding after the second world war. | Andy Sutton, BT |
| Google Peering Policy: Evolution Aligning Connectivity for the Cloud and AI Era | 17:15 | Google is evolving its peering strategy, driven by the escalating demand for low-latency Google Cloud workloads. This presentation outlines the progression of Google's peering policies. Why the shift? The network strategy has transitioned from an emphasis on open peering and widespread Google Global Cache (GGC) deployments for traffic like YouTube. The current focus centers on enterprise Cloud customers who leverage the internet edge for critical data transfers and applications. These customers necessitate low and stable latency, rendering them exceptionally sensitive to network fluctuations. | Arturo Servin, Google |
| Reducing Risk in Your Interconnection Strategy | 17:45 | In this session we explore how networks can assess and manage risk when joining Internet Exchange Points, with practical insights into security, resilience, and best practices for safer interconnection. | Malcolm Hutty, Director of Legal & Policy, LINX |

| Guest IXP - Stuttgart-IX | 13:50 | In 2025, Stuttgart-IX marks 20 years of operation, and five years since its major relaunch. What began as a modest IXP with a single switch and a few cross-connects has grown into a thriving community hub powered by a modern MPLS/EVPN platform, multiple sites, and a thirty-fold traffic increase. This talk reflects on the journey from reboot to regional relevance: what worked, what didn’t, and what we’ve learned along the way. We’ll cover the technical evolution, the operational and contractual challenges, how the global peering community shaped the exchange’s success story, and where it could improve. | Moritz Frenzel, Network Architect, Stuttgart-IX |
| The No-Bullsh*t Way to Build Infrastructure that Lasts. | 14:10 | Telcos often boast about resilience, redundancy, and ESG, until a crisis reveals the cracks. The truth is, much of today’s infrastructure is overpromised, underdelivered, and dangerously fragile. RETN CEO Tony O’Sullivan will challenge the industry to rethink what it means to build serious infrastructure in an innovative, scalable, and sustainable way. In a world defined by geopolitical tension, climate shocks, and cable cuts, how can we meet customer expectations that don’t tolerate downtime? Tony will share what RETN has learned by operating under fire, literally, and by scaling a lean, 44-country network that has stayed online when others have failed. | Tony O'Sullivan, CEO, RETN |
| What are the 5 things you might miss in the TSA? | 14:30 | The Telecoms Security Act (TSA) is gathering pace in adoption and implementation, but for those who are either treating it as a logical progression from CAS(T) or the legacy TSRs which predate it, there are several key governance areas which are likely to be missed areas. | Des Ward, Professional Services Director, Business Secure |
